Apparently, if a tree falls and no one hears it, it doesn’t make much of a sound. In this case, Apple Computer fell, Apple Inc rose up, and it barely warranted a rustling of media reports.
Take a look at the Technorati charts at the bottom. The worse day for the iPhone blog mentions is still far better than the best day of mentions of the Apple Inc transition. I realize the iPhone is the far better discussion piece. However,m I do find it surprising that it is so difficult to find articles and discussions around the fact that Apple has formally changed its position from a computer company (Apple Computer) to a consumer electronics company (Apple Inc.). This is big news both for the consumer and for other consumer electronics companies. Apple may not always take the biggest market share (although, as with iPod and iTunes, it can), but it almost always has a substantial amount of market influence.
Emily Nagle Green of The Yankee Group has a good article on the new positionnig and the fact that the bigger Apple Inc. news that was ignored in favor of the iPhone.
